Mahindra is known to shock buyers with sharp pricing, and this trend is all set to continue with the all-new Thar ROXX, a long awaited 4X4 SUV that’ll be launched on the 15th of August 2024.
The Thar ROXX is a quintessential off roader, and the Jeep-inspired styling attests to just that. However, the Thar ROXX will also be aimed at everyone who want the style and panache of the legendary Jeep looks but who never venture off the tarmac.Yes, nearly 80 % of the Thar ROXX’s buyers are likely to comprise of such people. Recognizing this, Mahindra has lined up two wheel drive/rear wheel drive variants of both the turbo petrol and turbo diesel engined models.
Omitting the four wheel drive transfer case will allow Mahindra to price the Thar ROXX very competitively, and all that saved weight will translate into a lighter car, which means slightly better fuel efficiency. Both 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options will be offered on the Thar ROXX, again giving a lot of choice to the buyer as well as pricing power to Mahindra. Expect a cracker of a price tag on the two wheel drive, manual trims. The engines that power the Thar ROXX will be borrowed from the 3-Door Thar but will get a bump up in power and torque to compensate for the additional weight that needs to be lugged around. Diving straight into the engines, the diesel motor – expected to be the staple and the one that brings the most numbers – will be the 2.2 liter-4 cylinder mHawk unit.
A smooth, free revving motor with excellent refinement levels, this is an engine that Mahindra sells by the lakhs each year, and has mastered. On the Thar ROXX, the mHawk motor will make 150 Bhp-350 Nm on lower trims, and 175 Bhp-380 Nm on higher trims. The petrol motor will be the 2 liter-4 cylinder mFalcon unit, again known for its high refinement levels and punchy torque delivery. The petrol’s base tune will put out 160 hp and 330 Nm while higher states of tune will pump out 175 Bhp-370 Nm.
Mahindra has already given us more than a glimpse of what the Thar ROXX will pack in. From a panoramic sunroof to beige art leather seats to automatic climate control and Level 2 ADAS, the Thar ROXX promises to be India’s most tech and feature-packed affordable 4X4, running rings around competition.
A metal hardtop means that the Thar ROXX will have no problems being a daily driver while also delivering better crash protection and the ability to package a sunroof, a feature that India simply can’t have enough of.
Mahindra Thar ROXX To Get 2WD In Both Petrol, Diesel, SHOCK Starting Price!
The rear doors do have their styling quirks with prominent kinks and vertical door handles, but who knows, it be another great styling element in the flesh as pictures can only show so much. As for pricing, we expect Mahindra to pull off a 12.99 starting price tag, and this kind of pricing will not just tempt Scorpio-N buyers but also XUV700 buyers who have always wanted a ‘Jeep’ but found the 3 door Thar too impractical for their needs. Why, even mid-size SUV such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos may feel the heat of the Thar ROXX. That’s what keen pricing can do, and it’s over to Mahindra now!
